SAA provided site design and landscape services for a new automobile dealership at the intersection of USH 12 and Airport Road in the City of Middleton. The site was quite challenging because it was in the approach area of the municipal airport and had single access due to its proximity to a state controlled limited access interchange. SAA was able to obtain approval from the WisDOT for an additional right-in right-out driveway by undertaking a traffic study that demonstrated that safety and capacity issues could be minimized. Because of the proximity to the airport, the Wisconsin Bureau of Aeronautics was concerned about the construction of a stormwater basin that would detain water for an extended period of time and create an attraction for birds that could potentially create a hazard for aircraft. SAA was able to design a basin that complimented the site with extensive landscaping, met the city’s strict stormwater controls while at the same time minimizing the potential hazard for aircraft. Because of its proximity to the airport, SAA also needed to meet the FAA guidelines and FAA height approval for construction of the building and lighting.
