Bike Lane Plan - Appleton, WI

...accommodating bikes on roadways, bike facilities at destinations, and interconnecting key destinations are critical to increasing bicycle mode share
Outcomes:

The City of Appleton wanted to impact mode share by increasing bicycle use for transportation. Working with a stakeholder committee, SAA developed a programming and facilities plan to increase the safety and attractiveness of bicycling in Appleton.

Major recommendations included policy statements to direct decision-makers in making sound choices for the accommodation of cyclists within the transportation network. Policies include installing bike lanes on designated bicycle routes with 3,000 AADT or greater, and prioritizing bicycle facility development over on-street parking where provision of both is not possible.

The plan promotes safe and effective bicycle transportation based on major destinations, regional connections to other Fox Valley communities, and transportation improvement schedules. A twenty-year improvement plan, phasing map, and cross-sections are included for reference throughout implementation.
