ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Accomplishments Since the Adoption of Existing Plans

Plans help guide a community’s future development and land use decisions. Periodically, it is important to measure the success of existing plans by ensuring that the community is developing in accordance with those plans. The City of Onalaska has implemented several plans, including the Onalaska Comprehensive Plan 1994, Onalaska’s Downtown Development Plan 1999, Onalaska Central Greenway Plan 2001, Onalaska Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan 1999, and several others. These plans helped guide many decisions in the City, and since the plans were adopted the City achieved the following:

• Adopted an official City Map
• Made modifications and updates to the City’s Zoning Code
• Signed a boundary agreement with La Crosse
• Raised design standards for economic development areas
• Adopted a Wellhead Protection Plan
• Adopted an Erosion Control Ordinance
• Adopted a new City Logo
• Installed a community entrance sign
• Created a Greenway Plan and purchased park property for the greenway
• Prepared a master plan for the La Crosse/Onalaska Economic Development Area on Interstate 90
• Adopted a Downtown Redevelopment Plan and implemented several projects
• Developed the new Municipal Building
• Started plans for the new swimming pool
• Raised design standards for site development, landscaping and commercial design
• Encouraged creative neighborhood design
• Adopted an Historic Preservation Ordinance
• Implemented new bicycle and transit systems and facilities
• Adopted Cell Tower and Adult Use Ordinances
• Expanded the City’s park system
• Proactively bolstered economic growth through TIF, partnerships and planning
