North American Stormwater Erosion Control Assocation (NASECA) Conference in Madison

Katie attended the NASECA erosion control conference on Wednesday, February 1, at the Lussier Family Heritage Center in Madison. The day focused on local projects featuring unique erosion control situations and presentations from the Wisconsin DNR relating to erosion control and it’s secondary effects on the local environment.  Items of note were the enhancements made to inlet protection in the City of Madison, the current status of regulations and technical standards at the WDNR, and a fascinating presentation on the sudden upsurge in frac sand mining in Wisconsin.

Marcus attended the NASECA stormwater conference on Thursday, February 2, at the Lussier Family Heritage Center in Madison. The emphasis of the conference was on the new WDNR requirements for phosphorus reduction in Wisconsin. It was discussed that the current standards for bio-retention will be changing in the future because of recent test results that indicate that using the current engineered soil mix actually increases phosphorous concentrations at the outfall.
